Unveiled

The air is crisp, breaking the residual memory of the summer heat. Crunchy leaves coat the grass, dormant energy for a season a half an orbit away. The air temperature so sublime a girl and her dad can’t discern where their skin ends and the air begins as their awareness merges into nature.
“Daddy, why can’t it stay like this forever?”
“We wouldn’t know the crispness of a fall day with out the heat of the summer.”
“But why must things change?”
“Good question. Tomorrow let’s go ask a scientist.”

The science lab is filled with instruments capable of great accuracy and precision, recording oscillations, invisible fields and discrete movements of atoms.
“Today, we have the most accurate measurement of time in history.”
“But why does everything change in time?”
Scientists were detecting change in every measurement they made including the fact that by observing a phenomenon they also produced change.
“Is that what our eyes and ears do, detect change?” said the girl.
“Yes, detecting the rise and fall of electromagnetic and acoustic waves”
Seeking some authority the two decided to ask the leaders at the capitol building about consequential change the next day.

It took quite a bit if waiting to be able to see such an important figure in society. Finally after the meetings were over and the bustling of the office had decreased they got a few minutes with the politician.
“Things changed for the worse before I was in office, so we are working hard to get things back to the way it was.”
“But isn’t that a change from how things are now?”
“Yes but our position is the correct one.”
After a short conversation it was evident that the leader’s positions and stances changed in accordance with whatever fit her agenda and notions.

“My dear daughter, perhaps, you should sit and be silent, listen.”
Upon sitting for some time she realized her thoughts changed more rapidly than her breathing, much more frequent than the cycles of the day.
She felt that everything was changing, including herself, but this left her more aflutter than ever.

“Let us sit with our thoughts and observe what remains when let go.”
Gradually sitting became steady and thoughts came and went with less attachment.  Until one day there was a flash of stillness between thoughts. “What was that light?”

“I do not know. Let’s go talk with the teacher that lives up on the hillside.”

After a rousing walk up the mountainside they approached a simple abode nestled in the forest. The quiet and kind-eyed teacher welcomed them inside.
“Why does everything change?”
“Seeing you are mesmerized by this 3-D world and the anticipation of time let me tell you a story if a  2-D world called ‘Sphere and the veil’.”

A sphere rolled along as one undifferentiated ball of energy such that its whole nature was unified due to a lack of division. Because there was not a thing inside, nothing ever happened.

Sphere had so much being to share and no way to experience it, so it rolled along looking to become something. Sphere came upon a thin veil effortlessly hanging across its path. Without a thought sphere kept rolling toward the veil until. . .

A Big BANG emanated from the initial encounter of the veil and the sphere. Sphere penetrated the veil and the initial point of contact between the two grew into a circle. As sphere rolled and penetrated deeper through the veil the circle expanded and the interface between them became a fabric upon which elaborate tapestries emerged.

The fabric diverged, as the veil got closer to the center of the sphere, creating more overlap between the two, expanding the fabric of space. Expansion gave rise to a non-static interface as rips provided glimpses of the energy beyond the veil. The rolling of the sphere created the illusion that this energy was oscillating by nature. Changing from off to on, on to off, and ultimately from there to not there. The movement of the oscillating waves was limited by the constant expansion of the diverging fabric.

Folding amassed the fabric to give form. The more fabric amassed by an object the slower the space between forms expanded since the fabric of space was being used to sustain the form. If objects were large enough the space between two seemingly separate forms was consumed such that objects appeared attracted to each other. Forms influenced the space between each other, which affected how the forms traveled on the interface between the sphere and the veil.

Now was happening upon this fabric. Yet the sphere only wholly experienced all of itself.  The interactions on the fabric were so invigorating the sphere conceived of a way to explore this interface firsthand, and thus identified sole aspects of its changeless self with forms on the changing fabric. Not realizing it was a part of the sphere each sole aspect was inclined to identify with a limited form. This forgetting of true identity begat wonder, pleasure, and experiences that naturally had opposites to provide contrast.

The evolution of expanding fabric organized and disorganized life to experience form and created a sense of separateness between forms. Light contrasted with darkness, good against evil, life from death and back again.

Development of grey matter enabled the recording of experiences to be retrieved using the same awareness that illuminated an experience originally. Like a hologram, the light of awareness was free to create a record of form’s impressions and reproduce it by shining its light on the impression. Complicating matters, impressions were often clouded by interference from other impressions or feelings. When impressions were repeated in the mind of form the sole aspect of the sphere became identified with the seemingly stable impressions and personality instead of the awareness that illuminated form.

By recalling recorded states of the fabric and anticipating future states a new sense emerged, a sense of the flowing of time.

As form consumed the fabric of space the expansion of the fabric decreased, slowing the flow of time. The energy of the sphere animated the fabricated forms and they were free to experience the drama of living. Ultimately, forms danced, played, hugged, devoured, attracted each other, and gave witness to the unfolding of the fabric of space and time, created by the veiling of the sphere.

Fortunately, the sphere never separated from each sole aspect within form. Beneath all form there remained a connection to the sphere, which provided a drive to uncover what was absolutely true beyond the duality of opposites.
This interconnection could only be unveiled when all inner oscillations were still: thoughts, desires and aversions. Then each sole aspect of being is free to realize its true identity as wholly sphere.

“That is the story of the sphere and the veil.”

“Thank you, dear teacher.”
Father and daughter had a lot to mentally digest during the decent down the hill and walked home in deep contemplation. They could feel themselves being thrust about by the changing oscillations of the world and a yearning to experience more beyond this growing sense of disillusionment.

They returned to the scientist and told him the story that mesmerized their imaginations.
“That is an interesting story. Indeed, it reminds me that the speed of light in the absence of matter is an absolute constant. Light is oscillations of energy moving through space. In fact we determine mass and length from the properties of light and the apparent acceleration due to gravity is the curving of space-time continuum. Admittedly, beyond the physical realm there could be an unchanging state of being that we are not detecting.”

After hearing the story the politicians became uncharacteristically introspective. “A tale to be pondered for sure. If all of us are interconnected in a deeper sense of being it wouldn’t be advantageous to ourselves to hoard, limit, judge or impose upon another person’s life.”

“Daddy, in order to experience the changeless we must find the changeless aspect within ourselves. Perhaps by being absolutely present we can uncover our connection with the formless.”

She meditated every day, which turned into weeks, months and years. Then a moment arrived that had been with her all along.

For a timeless moment she sat completely still, aware of changelessness. The veil vanished, her soul whole. Inspired to move inward, she followed flashes of insight between subsiding thoughts, which uncovered her connection to the absolute.
